The Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA), headquartered in Costa Rica, is a regional direct access entity. specializing in agriculture. IICA is on a mission to foster, promote, and support its member countries in achieving agricultural development and enhancing rural well-being throughout the Americas.
IICA's commitment to its mission is realized through strategic programmatic actions aimed at providing assistance to member countries across a spectrum of crucial areas - bioeconomy, rural development, family farming, international agricultural trade, climate change, gender and youth, natural resources management, agricultural health, food safety, technology, and innovation. The institute's extensive experience spans critical agricultural domains, including technology and innovation for agriculture, agricultural health, food quality and safety, international agricultural trade, family farming, rural development, natural resources management, and bioeconomy.
Together with GCF, IICA intends to promote agriculture and livestock production systems with lower carbon and energy footprints; reduce the vulnerability and increase resilience of rural economic systems by focusing on traditional communities; support adaptation and mitigation synergies, including effective management of soil and water resources; promote projects and business initiatives on eco-services, eco-tourism and green businesses; and strengthen the readiness of national agricultural sectors for project development and implementation.
