Overview

The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is an international access entity  from Japan, dedicated to providing financial and technical support for climate change mitigation and adaptation projects. JICA's focus areas include energy efficiency, renewable energy, public transport systems, stable water supply, climate-resilient agriculture, sustainable forest management, disaster risk reduction, and coastal protection. Leveraging Japanese knowledge, experience, and technologies, JICA strives to catalyze a paradigm shift towards a low-carbon and climate-resilient society in developing countries, guided by international best practices.

Established as an Incorporated Administrative Agency under the Act of the Incorporated Administrative Agency - Japan International Cooperation Agency (Act No. 136, 2002), JICA pursues its mission to contribute to the promotion of international cooperation, supporting the socioeconomic development, recovery, or economic stability of developing regions.

Together with GCF, JICA intends to support climate action of small island developing states, support climate-related disaster risk reduction projects, and apply innovative technologies to climate change mitigation and adaptation projects, along with training programmes for potential national entities.
