Access funding for climate actions
The Green Climate Fund provides a range of funding to support country‑driven climate action—from building capacity and preparing projects to financing implementation at scale.
The Green Climate Fund works with developing countries and partners to turn national climate priorities into action. Through readiness support, project preparation and targeted financing, GCF helps countries and institutions design, access, and implement climate investments at every stage.
Country priorities
GCF supports projects and programmes that align with national climate plans, such as Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), National Adaptation Plans (NAPs) and long term development strategies. The National Designated Authorities (NDAs) play a central role, confirming alignment and providing endorsement.
Readiness and capacity building
Readiness and Preparatory Support help countries and institutions strengthen the foundations for accessing and managing climate finance. Readiness can support NDA strengthening and country coordination, accreditation of Direct Access Entities, and the development of country pipelines and investment priorities.
Access funding pathways
Institutions can access GCF funding in two ways:
Project development and preparation
Once a project idea is identified, the Project Preparation Facility (PPF) can help turn it into a high quality, investment ready proposal. PPF provides support to AEs and PSAA applicants in project development, including technical and feasibility studies, environmental, social, and gender assessments, and financial structuring and co-financing.
Project approval
Funding proposals for projects are submitted for approval through one of two routes:
