The network driving global climate action

Meet the institutions that work with GCF to finance and enable climate action around the world and learn how to join our network.

GCF relies on its expanding network of partners to deliver results across the spectrum of climate action to promote low-carbon and climate-resilient paths. These partners span multilateral and national banks, international financial institutions, development finance institutions, UN agencies, conservation organisations, equity funds, government agencies, regional institutions and more.

These diverse partnerships enable GCF to build on knowledge and experiences to drive systemic change that achieves climate ambitions. GCF works through a partnerships approach, which positions us uniquely to serve as a bridge for developing countries in navigating a complex climate financing landscape.

Within this partnership network, GCF plays a catalytic role that is complementary to other sources of climate finance: unlocking projects that would not have happened without GCF financing or which would not have otherwise internalized rigorous climate considerations. In this way, the Fund complements multilateral development banks, development finance institutions and other partners to crowd in investment into low-emission, climate-resilient development, while also taking a leading role in driving a greater share of climate finance into adaptation.

Through its partnerships approach, GCF acts not just as a catalyst of finance, but also of strengthened decision-making and institution building, promoting the uptake of class-leading environmental, social and gender standards.

What will help us achieve paradigm shift? Having a vision and ambition that addresses the vulnerabilities that we face... supported by genuine partnerships to make projects a reality

National Designated Authorities

National Designated Authorities (NDAs) are institutions appointed by developing countries to be the interface between their governments and GCF. They provide strategic oversight of GCF’s activities in the country and communicate the country’s climate financing priorities. This country-driven approach ensures that GCF operates in harmony with the country’s NDCs.

Accredited Entities

Accredited Entities (AEs) are organisations that partner with GCF and developing countries to develop and implement projects, guided by country priorities and GCF’s investment framework. AEs include multilateral development banks, national and regional financial institutions, UN agencies, and specialised organisations working across mitigation and adaptation sectors. Organisations accredited by GCF demonstrate strong fiduciary standards and environmental, social, and gender safeguards.

Observers

As active engagement of diverse stakeholders is in GCF’s DNA, the GCF Board is mandated to grant accredited Observers access to its meetings. Observers are representatives from accredited civil society and private sector organisations who participate in Board meetings: two from CSOs, one each from developed and developing countries, and two from private sector organisations, one each from developed and developing countries.

Investors

GCF partners with a wide range of investors and co-financiers - including development finance institutions, commercial banks, institutional investors, funds, and public sector entities—to scale climate solutions in developing countries. Through concessional finance, GCF reduces risk and unlocks opportunities in underserved markets, delivering both financial returns and measurable impact.
