Climate Resilient Water Security for El Salvador: Strengthening Capacities and Strategic Frameworks for Water Investment Planning and Building the Country Pipeline

El Salvador is one of the world's most vulnerable countries to climate change, and it is experiencing much of this vulnerability through its water resources. The increasing impacts of floods and droughts due to climate change are threatening this already highly exposed country. Despite a pronounced vulnerability to water-related climate hazards and a recognition of the need to strengthen climate-resilient water resources management, El Salvador needs to strengthen its capacity to systematically manage and develop its water resources in ways that consider climate change impacts, and to access climate finance for climate resilient water resources management and development. This Readiness grant aims to strengthen El Salvador’s water sector stakeholders’ capacity to understand their climate adaptation needs and potential mitigation benefits via Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) and formulate actionable responses by developing projects and programmes that will address those needs and mobilise finance to enable their implementation.
