Overview

While water resources for ecosystems are becoming scarcer, the increase of extreme climate-related events such as landslides and floods threaten the livelihoods of people in Nepal’s Gandaki River Basin region, currently comprising 19.3 percent of the country's population and more than 40 ethnic groups.

The project adopts an ecosystem-centred and community-based approach to address key barriers identified in reducing climate vulnerability. These include a lack of information about climate change, and poor regulatory framework and institutional structures. This initiative strengthens the climate resilience of ecosystems to reduce the impacts of landslides and floods. It also provides technical assistance to increase the capacity of communities to maintain and support climate-resilient ecosystems.
