The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) established the National Adaptation Plan (NAP) process as a way to facilitate adaptation planning in least developed countries (LDCs) and other developing countries. As an operating entity of the financial mechanism of the UNFCCC, the Green Climate Fund (GCF) is committed to investing in developing countries’ efforts to adapt to the effects of climate change. GCF offers grants of up to 3 million USD per country for the formulation of NAPs and/or other adaptation planning processes at national, sub-national and/or sectoral levels.

As of April 2021, 104 adaptation planning proposals have been received from 95 countries. Of the remaining 51 eligible countries that are yet to submit an adaptation planning proposal, eight are the LDCs. LDCs are prioritised for access to resources to support adaptation.

GCF Division of Country Programming is organizing the outreach event for the National Designated Authorities (NDAs) and UNFCCC focal points of eight LDCs, aimed at accelerating these countries’ access to GCF’s adaptation planning support.
