Strengthening Solomon Islands GCF NDA Capacity to Support Private Sector and Invest in Forest and Energy Reforms to Build Climate Resilience

The SI NDA, government sectors and private sector is constrained by limited  capacity to coordinate and engage more effectively, address identified gaps in policies and processes to enhance climate change action , access to climate finance and build resilience through key sectors such as forestry and energy and formulate high-quality concept notes and funding proposals supported with sound data and evidence to submit to the GCF.

To project goal aims to contribute to the climate resilience and sustainability in the forestry and energy sector through NDA capacity support, enhancement of relevant policy framework and multi-stakeholder engagement, particularly with the private sector, and better access to climate finance”. The project has the key objectives as follows.

  1.  Strengthening SI NDA coordination capacity and enabling processes for project development and review.
  2. Strengthen private sector engagement, coordination and capacity for climate finance access
  3. Support initial accreditation processes for two nominated national entities to enable the country to access more climate finance
  4. Invest in policy, legislative and management regimes reform to enhance climate resilience and sustainability in the forestry sector for Solomon Islands
  5. Address data and information data gaps by undertaking feasibility studies to inform formulation of high-quality concepts for forest and energy sectors.

Direct beneficiaries include Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Disaster Management, Ministry of Finance and Treasury, Ministry of Forest and Research, Solomon Islands Chamber of Commerce, and Development Bank of Solomon Islands. The indirect beneficiaries include stakeholders from the private sector, forestry sector, energy sector and climate finance steering committee.
