The GCF Indigenous Peoples Advisory Group (IPAG) was established through the Indigenous Peoples Policy to enhance coordination between Indigenous Peoples and the Green Climate Fund and its partners.
IPAG is composed of Indigenous Peoples representatives from the regions of developing States where GCF may fund activities, selected through an Indigenous Peoples-led self-selection process for each region. More information on IPAG and their work can be found here.
In line with the recommendations from the eighth meeting of the Indigenous Peoples Advisory Group, the GCF Secretariat is seeking nominations to fill vacancies in IPAG.
For the 2027–2030 term, there is one vacancy in each of the following regions. As part of the Indigenous Peoples-led self-selection process, nominations are requested from relevant Indigenous Peoples’ institutions, bodies and organizations in these regions, including networks and regional Indigenous Peoples’ caucuses. The nominees should be Indigenous Peoples representatives from developing States where GCF may fund activities.
The regions are:
- Africa
- Eastern Europe and Central Asia
- Latin America and the Caribbean
- Pacific
Where no eligible nomination is received from one of the listed regions, the Secretariat may consider eligible nominations from underrepresented sub-regions or groups, consistent with the advice of the Indigenous Peoples Advisory Group.
Terms of reference
The IPAG Terms of Reference (TORs) describe the role and functions; membership; competencies and factors to be considered for the IPAG; self-selection process for nomination of IPAG membership; modalities of work; and revision and termination of the terms of reference.
IPAG members serve on a voluntary, non-remunerated basis. Where in-person participation is required, travel-related arrangements may be supported in accordance with applicable GCF policies and procedures. IPAG members can expect to attend two in-person meetings each year and be available to participate in monthly online meetings. Specific activities may require additional online meetings. The working language of the Green Climate Fund is English.
Nomination procedure
Indigenous Peoples’ institutions, bodies or organizations that are providing nominations are requested to include the following information:
- Name and contact details of the nominating Indigenous Peoples’ institution, body or organization, including the region for which the nomination is being submitted.
- Full name and contact details of the nominee, including email and telephone number.
- Confirmation from the head or designated focal point of the nominating Indigenous Peoples’ institution, body or organization that the nominee is being formally nominated or endorsed.
- A statement demonstrating how the nominee meets the criteria and factors to be considered for IPAG membership, as outlined in the TORs.
- A short CV or biography of the nominee, highlighting experience and contributions relevant to Indigenous Peoples’ issues, climate action or related areas.
- Endorsements from other Indigenous Peoples’ institutions, bodies or organizations in the respective region are highly encouraged.
