Building national capacity to improve access to climate finance

This grant should enable the EIF, a potential direct access entity whose file is at stage 1: completeness check by the GCF Secretariat, to have proven expertise in mobilizing climate finance and developing climate projects and programmes with a view to strengthening the resilience of populations and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.

The main objective of the project is to strengthen national technical and institutional capacities, in particular those of the EIF, for strong mobilization of climate finance and maintenance of accreditation standards.

This preparation proposal will also help defining the requirements for potentially necessary adjustments for capacity building, strategic framework support to enable the development of project portfolios, for a better mobilization of climate finance.

This will be done by piloting searching solutions through:

  • The Outcome 1.2. Direct access applicants and accredited entities (DAEs) have established capacity to meet and maintain the GCF’s accreditation standards; and accredited DAEs have the capacity to develop a pipeline of projects and effectively implement GCF-funded activities;
  • The Outcome 2.4. Strategies for transforming and attracting private sector investment for low emissions and resilience developed and being used.
