Partnering with Central Asia on country-driven climate action
29 Jun 2026
What happens in Central Asia's mountains affects far more than the region itself—around 2 billion people depend on the glaciers and river systems that originate here. As climate change accelerates glacier loss and intensifies water stress, countries across the region are working together to build resilience to shared climate risks.
GCF is engaging more closely with Central Asia through its regional approach. The GCF team, in 2025, visited climate action projects across the region, meeting with communities, government counterparts, and partners to see firsthand how GCF investments are supporting locally led adaptation and strengthening regional cooperation.
From climate-smart agriculture and resilient infrastructure to innovative financing for vulnerable communities, these projects are helping people adapt to a changing climate while protecting the natural resources they depend on.
GCF is committed to partnering with countries across Central Asia to scale climate finance, accelerate adaptation, and support climate-resilient development where it is needed most.
