Overview

Coastal communities in The Bahamas, Belize, Grenada, Jamaica and Saint Lucia face repeated hazards, from hurricanes and storm surges to drought and coastal erosion. Each event erodes livelihoods and resilience, while local organisations lack the institutional capacity, climate data skills and access to finance to respond.

Climate Actions for Building Resilience in Coastal Communities (CABRIC) will channel adaptation finance directly to community-led initiatives. It will build the capacity of local organisations to access, manage and report on climate finance, and share community-validated climate risk information and lessons across the region. A grant facility with small, medium and large windows will fund locally led adaptation by organisations with different levels of capacity, covering climate-resilient agriculture, ecosystem-based fisheries, mangrove restoration, last-mile early warning systems, and resilient shelters and clinics. The facility will shift finance and decision-making closer to local actors.

CABRIC operationalises GCF's locally led climate action framework through enhanced direct access. National direct access entities in Jamaica and Saint Lucia will serve as executing entities, using their existing governance structures rather than parallel ones.
