Overview

Peru is home to a large carbon stock in its diverse ecosystems, including the Amazon rainforest which occupies nearly 60 per cent of its territory. Economic and social development in Peru has been accompanied by a significant increase in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions related to the deforestation caused by migration from highlands and unsustainable land stewardship practices.

The objective of this project is to establish an eco-bio-business facility (EBBF) that provides technical assistance and partly reimbursable grant financing for small, community-based eco-bio-businesses (EBBs). EBBs obtain value from the sustainable use of forest resources through activities ranging from sustainable tourism and wildlife management to forestry and agroforestry products. The proposal will reduce the barriers to accessing markets and regular credits by providing a technical assistance facility for training, support, refining business plans, and a reimbursable grant to scale up operations.
