Overview
The Development Bank of Namibia (DBN_Namibia) is a government-owned development bank headquartered in Windhoek, with regional branches in Walvis Bay, Ongwediva, and Rundu. Its mandate is to promote economic growth and social development in Namibia by financing key development activities. DBN_Namibia works closely with Namibia’s National Designated Authority (NDA), public and private sectors, and international partners to support national priorities, including the National Climate Change Strategy and NDCs.
DBN_Namibia has integrated climate change into its core operations, shifting its focus to projects that support climate resilience and low-carbon development and strengthened its climate finance role, including through projects such as solar energy plants, solar water heating systems, renewable heat generation, water resource management, water supply improvements and community-based adaptation initiatives.
DBN_Namibia is developing a pipeline of climate change projects across mitigation and adaptation sectors and is exploring the establishment of a climate finance facility to mobilize private sector investments in the areas of energy access and efficiency, low-emission transport, sustainable land use and forest management.
