Overview
Development Bank of Rwanda Plc (BRD), is the national development bank of Rwanda, mandated to work with the private sector, households and financial institutions to mobilize private capital in support of the country’s development agenda. BRD partners with microfinance institutions and savings and credit cooperatives to deliver tailored financial solutions to small-scale farmers and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
BRD's mission is to drive the sustainable development of Rwanda by providing innovative, impactful, and inclusive development finance. BRD focuses on priority sectors such as agriculture, affordable housing, education, energy, and infrastructure - fully aligned with Rwanda's Vision 20250 and the National Strategy for Transformation. As a catalyst for investment and innovation, BRD is committed to advancing Rwanda's climate goals by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and strengthening the resilience of vulnerable communities.
Through a strategic partnership with GCF, BRD aims to scale up its impact by mobilizing climate finance, technical expertise, and global best practices. In close collaboration with the National Designated Authority, BRD will expand the implementation of public, private and cross-cutting projects in key areas such as renewable energy generation and access, energy efficiency, green transport, climate-smart housing and cities, ecosystem-based adaptation, biodiversity conservation, sustainable resource management, climate resilient agriculture, and food and water security.
