Many developing countries, including those in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC), require private capital to achieve their low-emission and climate-resilient development goals. The private sector must invest in climate-friendly infrastructure, finance adaptation projects, and support the transition to low-carbon activities to fulfill the objectives of the Paris Agreement. Shifting domestic financial systems, such as central banks, regulators, and financial institutions, to align with Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), is crucial. National Designated Authorities' involvement in transforming the private and financial sectors is vital, and the Readiness program offers various options for this purpose.

With this in mind, the Green Climate Fund (GCF) is organizing a webinar titled 'Leveraging Readiness Support for Mobilizing the Private Sector for Climate Action' on 8 June 2023. This webinar presents a unique opportunity for LAC countries and entities to explore the support provided by the Readiness program in engaging the private sector for climate action. The event will introduce the GCF’s Private Sector Facility and available support for engaging the private sector in climate action. Furthermore, it will provide valuable information on leveraging Readiness resources to catalyze private sector involvement in achieving climate change and sustainability goals as outlined in the countries' NDCs. Real-life case studies from Panama and St. Lucia will showcase their successful establishment of climate-aligned private and financial sectors, utilizing Readiness resources and sharing valuable experiences and best practices to inspire similar actions elsewhere. The discussions will cover challenges in engaging small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in climate action, sectors that require significant private sector financing, and policies that can facilitate their engagement. Ultimately, the webinar aims to foster collaboration and encourage more countries in the region to partner with the private sector and financial institutions for nationally appropriate climate action.

The webinar will be conducted in English with live interpretation available in Spanish and French, allowing representatives from National Designated Authorities, Accredited Entities of the GCF, and Delivery Partners from Latin America and the Caribbean to participate. The session will be held at the following time:

8:00 AM – 9:30 AM Korea Standard Time (KST)

Time is applicable for participants based in or have pipeline of projects in the Pacific in Latin America and the Caribbean
