The Green Climate Fund hosts its first Annual Meeting with the Thematic Bodies of the UNFCCC in Marrakech

The Co-Chairs of the GCF held their first annual meeting with the thematic bodies of the UNFCCC during the COP22.

The Co-Chairs of the Green Climate Fund held their first annual meeting with the thematic bodies of the UNFCCC during the 22nd session of the Conference of the Parties in Marrakech, Morocco, on 9 November 2016. The meeting was attended by the Co-Chairs of the UNFCCC thematic bodies, including the Adaptation Committee, the Least Developed Countries Expert Group, the Technology Executive Committee, the Climate Technology Center and Network, the Executive Committee of the Warsaw International Mechanism on Loss and Damage, the Standing Committee on Finance, the Co-Chairs of the Subsidiary Bodies, as well as members of the bodies and the Board of the Green Climate Fund.

This meeting is one of the initiatives approved by the Board as part of its efforts to enhance the relationship and collaboration of GCF with the thematic bodies of the UNFCCC. The participants of the meeting introduced their respective areas of work and exchanged their views on potential areas to further their collaboration.

The meeting outcomes will be captured in a report to be presented to the Conference of the Parties next year.

Key highlights of the annual meeting:

  • The Co-Chairs of the thematic bodies welcomed the initiative of the GCF Board to take action on strengthening their relationship.
  • The participants exchanged ideas on how to enhance coordination, including through the sharing of information and lessons learned, participation in meetings, joint workshops, and the use of their joint expertise to concretely assist developing countries and communities across sectors and scales.
  • The Co-Chairs of the thematic bodies agreed that the dialogue should be complementing existing efforts and catalyzing symbiotic relationships with each other.
