The Government of the Republic of Rwanda and the Green Climate Fund (GCF) on 8 November 2022 signed a bilateral privileges and immunities agreement, granting GCF privileges and immunities in line with those of other international organizations.

The signing took place in Sharm-el Sheikh, Egypt on the sidelines of COP 27 in which both parties are actively participating. The agreement was signed by Dr. Vincent Biruta, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Rwanda and Yannick Glemarec, GCF Executive Director. Mr Glemarec thanked the Government of Rwanda for its cooperation and support of GCF. Rwanda is slated to host GCF’s 36th Board meeting next year.

The granting of privileges and immunities facilitates the implementation of GCF-funded projects, especially projects involving GCF direct investments, and guarantee that GCF funds are used exclusively for the achievement of GCF mandate.
