The Green Climate Fund (GCF) will host the sixth annual GCF Private Investment for Climate Conference (GPIC) 2023, in Nairobi, Kenya, 4-5 September 2023, which gathers global leaders from the private and public sectors to accelerate private finance at scale for climate action in developing countries.

Taking place at the Mövenpick Residences and Hotel in Nairobi, Kenya, on the margins of the Africa Climate Summit, the two-day conference will convene hundreds of entrepreneurs, developers, financiers, and investors to showcase successful and new local market-creating ideas, explore innovative approaches to address market failures, and forge new partnerships.

As noted by Antonio Guterres, Secretary General of the United Nations, private capital plays a pivotal role in reaching the net zero goals as set in the Paris Agreement. GCF, as the world’s largest multilateral climate fund and a hub of the climate finance architecture with over 200 accredited entities and delivery partners is well positioned to make a substantial contribution to this effort.

As a risk-inclined and impact-oriented institution, GCF, through its Private Sector Facility (PSF), plays a critical role in mobilising and shifting financial flows managed by the private sector towards low-emission and climate-resilient investments in developing countries.

This year’s conference will focus on showcasing the achievements and potential of private sector Direct Access Entities (DAEs) and the wider partner network of the Fund. The conference will feature several prominent speakers in the climate finance space.  Mafalda Duarte, GCF Executive Director, will open the conference alongside Alexia Latortue, US Department of Treasury’s Assistant Secretary for International Trade and Development and Jacqueline Novogratz, Founder and CEO of Acumen.

Led by industry experts, key themes across the two days will focus on adaptation business models, clean energy transition, investing in nature, greening local financial institutions, capital for disruptive technologies, and how to work with GCF.
