The Green Climate Fund (GCF) is pleased to announce that its Executive Director, Mafalda Duarte, has been featured on the inaugural TIME100 Climate list, which recognises the 100 most innovative and influential leaders driving climate action.

Since the start of her term in August 2023, Duarte’s focus at GCF is to support the climate ambitions of developing countries and help secure our shared futures. Her “50by30” vision charts the course for GCF – the world’s largest multilateral climate fund with more than 240 climate projects across 129 developing countries – to accelerate the delivery of tangible support for the most vulnerable, maximise private capital investments, simplify access to urgently needed climate finance, and promote systemic change.

Duarte is a veteran of climate finance and international development. Prior to joining GCF, she led the Climate Investment Funds (CIF), an USD 11 billion climate fund supporting over 70 countries. During that time, Duarte positioned CIF as a key mechanism among peers, grew its capitalisation by over USD 3 billion, and doubled its programming.

A proud mother to three daughters, Mafalda is also dedicated to helping women of all ages find the leader within themselves and make an impact.
