Every year, forest fires are occurring more frequently and in a broader scope in Peru, due to the combination of anthropic actions and the changes in temperature, rainfall and drought patterns, which are becoming more prolonged and intense, generating the conditions for these events. Beyond the prompt attention of SERNANP to forest fires, the country is moving towards a culture of prevention by articulating various sectors. However, additional support is required to attend the climatic emergency at the speed it is moving, which must be seen beyond the limits of the natural protected areas (NPAs) with a territory approach.

The project will address these problems by scaling up the experience developed in SINANPE and consolidating the work done by the Government of Peru through the articulating role of SERNANP, which coordinates with other national, subnational and local government agencies, and other local stakeholders.
