Strategic Readiness to support the Updated NDC and its Climate Action for Georgia: Transforming Agriculture Sector through Low-Emissions and Climate-Resilient Pathways

Georgia and NDA need technical assistance, institutional capacity building and financial resources to implement their policies and plan future actions at all levels, from national level to cities and municipalities, all the way to providing national vision and implementation support to private sector and civil society. Hence, it is critical to support NDA in developing a Roadmap for the Low-carbon Development of the Agriculture Sector in line with the priorities outlined in the Updated NDCs and CC Strategy to ensure that the country meets its Paris Agreement commitments and progresses on Its sustainable development pathway.

To ensure NDA receives adequate support on its low-emission and climate-resilient pathway towards achieving Paris Agreement commitments, FAO has closely consulted NDA and beneficiaries from the MEPA as well as its respective agencies. In complementarity to the consultations, the below proposal stems from the comprehensive analysis of country needs as outlined in Georgia’s Readiness Needs Assessment (RNA) and the Country Programme with the Green Climate Fund.

The goal of this readiness is to support Georgia on its low-emission and climate- resilient pathway of the agriculture sector in line with the country’s commitments under the Paris Agreement through the improvement of national capacity and enhancement of the strategic framework to create enabling environment for increased low-emission ambition in the agriculture sector.

This GCF readiness proposal will provide an opportunity for Georgia to address climate change adaptation and mitigation in the agriculture sector, by enhancing the effectiveness of NDA through its capacity building and addressing policy gaps, improve sectoral expertise, and enhance enabling environments for low-emission development of agriculture sector in Georgia.
