In 2019, the Green Climate Fund (GCF) engaged the World Resources Institute (WRI) to conduct a review of the adaptation planning window of GCF’s Readiness Programme and suggest ways to strengthen its guidance and knowledge management. WRI evaluated the adaptation planning window by reviewing GCF’s existing guidance and knowledge management systems, as well as the first 35 adaptation planning proposals that were approved. WRI also interviewed representatives from eight countries with approved proposals, as well as experts from other organisations involved in adaptation planning globally.
 
This report summarises key findings, proposes measures to strengthen the adaptation planning window of the Readiness Programme, and suggests descriptions and good practice examples for the 16 GCF-proposed indicative outputs of adaptation planning.
