Formulation of the National Climate Change Adaptation Plan (NAP) for Water Resources of Chile

The water resources sector is highly vulnerable to climate change, which has been reflected in an overall decrease in rainfall compared to the historical average. In recent years, the country has exhibited a clear reduction in surface runoff and an expansion of the hyper-arid zone.

The objective of this Readiness proposal is to formulate the National Adaptation Plan to Climate Change on Water Resources (NAP WR) which will support the government in strengthening its national capacities and leading the adaptation process in the water resources sector in Chile. Furthermore, GCF´s support will improve the coordination among the numerous national initiatives in this sector through the improved governance frameworks to be created by the NAP WR. To ensure cross-cutting actions, this process requires a multi-stakeholder engagement and considers the active involvement of different sectors of the society, such as government agencies, political parties, private sector entities, and civil society, both at the local and regional level. In addition, this proposal includes a dedicated dialogue and an action plan to engage with the private sector.
