EmpoweringMunicipalities in Haiti to plan for, manage and respond to the impacts of climate change

This proposal aims to strengthen the capacities of beneficiaries which includes technical officers, managers, and other representatives of local government, non- governmental institutions, private sector and community based organisations infive municipalities across the Republic of Haiti (i.e., Bazinet, Belle-Ansa, Iron Coast, Jamel and Margot) to strategically plan for, respond to and manage the impacts of climate change. It will assist them in prioritizing climate related activities and to be able to access climate finance from the Green Climate Fund(GCF) and other sources. Additionally, support will be given to increase municipalities awareness and knowledge of local vulnerabilities. As such, these actions will aid in the advancement of Haiti’s National Determined Contributions (NDCs) and National Policy to Fight Against Climate Change (PNCC). These actions will allow for greater and more efficient implementation of climate and disaster risk response measures across scales. In addition to enhancing local strategies and policies that guide adaptive development and planning processes at the community level. These investments in human capital at the municipal level – in terms of skills, knowledge and planning -- increase Haiti’s ability to comprehensively address climate change impacts in the near and long term.
