Building a climate-resilient future in South Sudan

20 Mar 2025 / The world’s ‘youngest country’ deserves a climate-resilient future South Sudan is suffering under the triple threats of climate, conflict and fragility: facing deadly heatwaves, prolonged flooding and increasing food insecurity. GCF is working alongside the government to bring a first single-country investment that will finance resilience. GCF, led by its Executive Director, Mafalda Duarte, conducted its first-ever visit to South Sudan— committing vital climate finance to help ensure systemic, sustainable investment in this climate-vulnerable nation.

GCF to ramp up climate investment in South Sudan

18 Mar 2025 / Juba, South Sudan—Executive Director Mafalda Duarte headed the Green Climate Fund’s (GCF) first-ever delegation to South Sudan and committed to significantly increasing climate investment in the country by the end of this year. Arriving in a blistering heatwave that forced the country’s schools to close for two weeks, the GCF delegation met with H.E. President Salva Kiir Mayardit, the Minister for Environment and Forestry, Josephine Napwon Cosmos Ngoya, Cabinet ministers, civil society organisations, and the private sector.
