The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) is a United Nations agency dedicated to advocating for children's rights, meeting their basic needs, and expanding their opportunities to achieve their full potential. Established in 1946, UNICEF operates in over 190 countries and territories, with a strong presence in least developed and conflict-affected areas. Guided by the Convention on the Rights of the Child and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), UNICEF collaborates with national governments, non-governmental organizations, and other partners to deliver programs focused on health, education, social protection, and water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH).

UNICEF leverages its extensive global network and technical expertise to implement climate-resilient projects that benefit vulnerable populations, especially children. Its efforts include climate-smart health systems, disaster risk reduction, and climate-resilient water and sanitation services. UNICEF's projects align with national priorities and support the implementation of Nationally Determined Contributions and National Adaptation Plans. Additionally, the organization’s Sustainability and Climate Change Action Plan (2023–2030) emphasizes reducing its environmental footprint and fostering child-centered climate policies.

UNICEF’s proven capacity in managing grants and building local resilience is exepcted to enhance GCF’s ability to achieve transformative results in adaptation and mitigation. With a focus on cross-cutting solutions, UNICEF addresses health, food and water security, livelihoods, and ecosystem sustainability, ensuring that climate finance reaches the most vulnerable while advancing global climate goals.
