GCF in Bhutan: Supporting climate resilience in agriculture

For much of her life, Gyem, an elderly farmer from Phangyul Gewog in Bhutan's Wangdue Phodrang district, lived with chronic water scarcity that affected both daily life and agriculture. This GCF-supported project, implemented with UNDP and the Royal Government of Bhutan, has helped farmers gain access to climate-resilient irrigation systems, improved agricultural practices, and weather information, enabling them to adapt to a changing climate.
For Gyem, what this meant was that clean drinking water and reliable irrigation were finally brought to her community after decades of water scarcity. Her story offers a powerful example of how climate adaptation can transform lives, strengthen livelihoods, and build resilience in vulnerable communities.
