Overview

The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is a United Nations entity headquartered in Kenya and the United Nations focal point for sustainable urbanization. UN-Habitat coordinates implementation of the New Urban Agenda and supports Sustainable Development Goal 11 on sustainable cities and communities. Through more than 90 country and programme offices, UN-Habitat works with national and local governments, development partners and urban stakeholders across developing countries, least developed countries and small island developing States.

UN-Habitat's climate programming focuses on urban resilience, climate-resilient infrastructure, sustainable cities and mobility, nature-based solutions and low-emission urban development. UN-Habitat supports countries in localizing nationally determined contributions, advancing multilevel climate action and strengthening climate investment pipelines through technical assistance, capacity-building and climate finance initiatives.

UN-Habitat's engagement with GCF is expected to link national climate priorities with locally implemented urban solutions. Drawing on its expertise in resilient infrastructure, locally led adaptation and inclusive urban planning, UN-Habitat seeks to advance integrated adaptation and mitigation while mobilizing climate finance for sustainable urban development in rapidly growing cities and settlements.
