Overview

Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA) is a statutory investment institution owned by all federating units of Nigeria and headquartered in Abuja. With a mandate to drive economic growth through strategic investments, NSIA operates through three ring-fenced funds focused on future generations savings, infrastructure development, and economic stabilization. In addition to managing government and third-party funds, the authority has integrated sustainability and climate action into its operations through dedicated environmental, social and governance (ESG) frameworks and green investment initiatives.

NSIA works closely with national institutions, including the National Council on Climate Change, to support Nigeria’s climate priorities and carbon market development. The authority has also established strategic climate finance platforms, including Carbon Vista, the Renewable Investment Platform for Limitless Energy, and the Green Guarantee Company, to mobilize private and institutional capital for climate mitigation and adaptation projects.

By partnering with GCF, NSIA aims to scale up concessional and blended finance for renewable energy, low-carbon infrastructure, regenerative agriculture, and climate resilience projects aligned with Nigeria’s nationally determined contributions and Energy Transition Plan. Planned initiatives include financing facilities for solar mini-grids and green housing, as well as programmes to support sustainable land management and climate resilience for smallholder farmers.
