Overview
Mali-Folkecenter – NYETAA (MFC) is a non-governmental organization headquartered in Bamako, Mali, with a mission to support communities, particularly youth and women, through ecological innovation, entrepreneurship and inclusive participation in climate and energy transitions. MFC implements activities in renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, climate education, capacity-building, policy advocacy and community-based adaptation, working directly with local communities and vulnerable groups.
MFC’s work is anchored in partnerships with local communities, public authorities, civil society organizations and international partners. Since 2008, it has hosted the secretariat of a national civil society climate change network, supporting coordination, learning and dissemination of practices among civil society actors. Its programme experience spans sustainable natural resource management, climate resilience, advocacy and lobbying, with a focus on strengthening local capacities, promoting public–private collaboration, improving policy environments and sharing practical solutions for community-led climate action.
Through engagement with GCF, MFC aims to contribute to Mali’s climate priorities, including those reflected in its nationally determined contribution and GCF country programme, by advancing locally led and inclusive climate programming. Its intended areas of focus include renewable energy, agroecology, sustainable land management and livelihood diversification. Building on its experience with women, youth and rural communities, MFC is positioned to support practical adaptation and mitigation initiatives that strengthen community resilience, expand access to sustainable energy and promote environmentally sound local development.
