Overview

The Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) is an international access entity based in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia with a mission of working to improve the lives of people in its 57 member countries, including 29 fragile states, and Muslim communities in non-member countries worldwide by promoting social and economic development. IsDB has 12 regional hubs and centres across the world and has operations in all continents. As a multilateral development bank, IsDB coordinates closely with its peers through the Multilateral Development Banks’ (MDB) Joint Climate Working Group.

The IsDB addresses the challenges of climate change through adaptation-driven and resilience-focused investments and interventions, and recognizes climate change action as a key priority area and invests in high impact projects in many sectors including energy (renewable and smart systems), climate-smart agriculture, forestry, resource efficiency, zero carbon buildings, sustainable transport, sustainable cities and urban development, coastal protection, waste management, water and sanitation, and others.

By partnering with GCF, IsDB aims to support the implementation of its member countries’ NDCs, attract the private sector to climate finance through blended finance and concessional loans and equity across sectors, support readiness through its south-south cooperation, and support climate resilience through policy and technical assistance.
