Overview

The Infrastructure Development Bank of Zimbabwe (IDBZ) functions as a national direct access entity situated in Zimbabwe. Established on the 31st of August 2005, IDBZ took over the assets and liabilities of the former Zimbabwe Development Bank (ZDB). The bank was created with the primary objective of promoting economic development and growth, as well as enhancing the living standards of Zimbabweans through infrastructure development in various sectors.

IDBZ focuses its efforts on the development of key sectors, including energy power supply, transport, water and sanitation, information communication technology (ICT), and housing. Operating under the IDBZ Act (Chapter 24:14), the bank was specifically designed as a vehicle to drive economic development and improve living standards by facilitating infrastructure development. As an infrastructure development finance institution (DFI), IDBZ is mandated to not only contribute to the development of physical infrastructure but also to enhance institutional capacity in entities involved in infrastructure development across Zimbabwe. This underscores the bank's commitment to fostering economic growth and improving the overall quality of life for the people of Zimbabwe.

IDBZ intends to use GCF resources with a focus on areas of energy access, energy efficiency and agriculture for the following activities to continue to assist the Government of Zimbabwe in the implementation of its nationally determined contributions, including off-grid solar projects, solid waste management, and solar-powered water-efficient irrigation schemes.
