Overview

Eastern and Southern African Trade and Development Bank (TDB) is a regional direct access entity and supranational development finance institution establishedin1985 as part of the integration framework for Eastern and Southern African. Serving 25 member states, TDB is mandated to promote trade, regional economic integration, and sustainable development through a suite of financial instruments, including trade and project finance, infrastructure funding, and asset management.

TDB has its principal offices in Burundi and Mauritius, and supported by regional and country offices in Ethiopia, Kenya, Zimbabwe, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, TDB operates with a growing workforce and maintains strong engagement with both public and private sector actors. It is governed by a Board of Governors made up of Ministries of Finance from all member states, offering a robust platform for direct collaboration with GCF National Designated Authorities (NDAs).

With a long-standing market presence, an investment-grade credit rating, and trusted relationships with global financial institutions, TDB is uniquely positioned to intermediate climate finance across its member states. Its ability to mobilize and blend green capital from public and private sources makes it a strategic partner for the GCF in delivering scalable and transformational climate projects, particularly in areas such as electric mobility, green transport infrastructure, low-carbon energy, and climate-resilient agriculture, while ensuring alignment with GCF’s mitigation and adaptation result areas.
