Overview

The Development Finance Corporation (DFC) is Belize’s national public development finance institution, headquartered in Belmopan. DFC's mission is to provide innovative development financial solutions which contribute to the resilient and equitable growth of Belize, with a purpose to support the strengthening and expansion of Belize’s economy by providing developmental financing on an economically sustainable and environmentally acceptable basis to individuals, businesses and organizations.

DFC, as a member of the Latin American Association of Development Financing institutions, partners with regional and international institutions such as the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB), Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), and International Cooperation and Development Fund (ICDF), and has financed sectors including education, agriculture, and industry.

In partnership with the GCF, DFC aims to strengthen its role in managing climate finance effectively and advancing Belize’s economic development through targeted investments and strategic collaborations. DFC’s strategy focuses on expanding its loan portfolio in climate change adaptation and mitigation, and it will continue working with existing development partners while aligning its GCF project pipeline with national priorities. By coordinating closely with Belize’s National Designated Authority (NDA), DFC seeks to mobilize co-financing, leverage private sector participation, and contribute meaningfully to the implementation of Belize’s country programme.
