Development Bank of Jamaica Limited

Development Bank of Jamaica Limited (DBJ) is  a national direct access entity situated in Jamaica. Established in 2000 through mergers with other development-related institutions, including the Agricultural Credit Bank of Jamaica, the National Development Bank of Jamaica, and the National Investment Bank of Jamaica in 2006, DBJ is a wholly owned government company.

With a mission to enhance the livelihood of all Jamaicans through development financing, capacity-building, public-private partnerships, and privatization solutions aligned with national policies, DBJ has played a pivotal role in improving the business environment and increasing access to finance for micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs). The entity has actively supported national efforts in energy conservation, energy access, and energy efficiency, aiming to mobilize significant investments from the private sector to promote renewable energy initiatives. DBJ offers a range of services to Jamaican entrepreneurs at all levels, including access to low-cost financing through its network of Approved Financial Institutions and Micro Finance Institutions, a partial loan guarantee, renewable energy solutions, technical assistance, capacity development, private equity and venture capital support. Additionally, the bank provides opportunities for broadening entrepreneurship and ownership through privatization services and public-private partnership options.

Together with GCF, DBJ aims to work on scaling up projects within the health sector and enhancing the resilience of health-care provision to the impacts of climate change; promoting the benefits of energy efficiency and renewable energy in local small and medium-sized enterprises; and addressing a range of regulatory barriers and constraints to incentives which inhibit private sector-led growth and SME supply chains in the Jamaican economy.
