Overview
The CARICOM Development Fund (CDF), established in 2008 and headquartered in Barbados, operates as a regional direct access entity. Primarily focused on providing financial and technical assistance to Member States of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), the CDF channels its support into various sectors, including agriculture, infrastructure, sustainable energy, tourism, and climate change.
Having funded several climate change projects in the region, such as solar farms, energy management initiatives in the private sector, and endeavors for climate-resilient agriculture, the CDF plays a pivotal role in advancing sustainable development goals. As a regional DAE, the CDF actively seeks to promote knowledge-sharing and best practices among other regional DAEs, facilitating assistance in their accreditation processes and will continue to contribute to the region's development through its strategic financial and technical interventions.
Together with GCF, CDF plans to expand its credit risk abatement facility to stimulate increased market activity and induce an accelerated level of commercially viable investments in emissions-reducing sustainable energy investments across small and medium-sized enterprises in the Caribbean, as well as develop climate-resilient infrastructure projects in rural and urban communities across the Caribbean that are particularly vulnerable to the adverse impacts of climate change.
