Overview
Bank of Bhutan Limited (BoB) is the largest and oldest commercial bank in Bhutan, headquartered in Thimphu and operating since 1968. With a mission to deliver inclusive and reliable banking services that contribute to national development and financial stability, BoB provides retail and corporate banking services across the country, including financing for electric vehicle infrastructure and small hydropower projects. Through its nationwide network, the bank serves communities across Bhutan, including remote and underserved areas.
BoB maintains close partnerships with key government institutions and collaborates with organizations to support sustainable finance and climate-related initiatives, including electric mobility and energy efficiency. The bank also participates in national and regional financial sector networks and has experience working with multilateral and bilateral partners on climate-related programmes.
By partnering with GCF, BoB aims to utilize concessional climate finance to support Bhutan’s mitigation and adaptation priorities, building on its existing climate-aligned financing portfolio. The bank intends to scale investments in low-emission transport, renewable energy and energy efficiency, sustainable urban development, climate-resilient agriculture, and resilient infrastructure, while supporting Bhutan’s long-term low-carbon and climate-resilient development pathway.
