The World Forestry Congress (WFC) is the world’s largest forest-related event held every six years. It serves as a forum for the exchange of experiences, lessons, views, and information on all aspects of forests and forestry, including management, conservation, policy, research, finance, industry, and livelihoods.  The XV WFC, which takes place for the first time in the Republic of Korea, is hosted by the Korean Forest Service in partnership with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.

The theme of this year’s Congress – Building a Green, Healthy and Resilient Future with Forests – gives prominence to climate change as the key driver of global environmental policy, and the role of forests in building climate-resilient economies, ecosystems, and livelihoods. The Green Climate Fund’s (GCF) participation in the WFC highlights the opportunities to build on the foundation of climate action in the forest sector, by exploring the potential for innovative partnerships for mobilising private sector investment in sustainable forest management and restoration. Forests and land use, one of GCF’s eight key result areas, accounts for over 14 per cent of the current GCF portfolio. Projects under this result area are expected to result in 1 billion anticipated tonnes of CO2 equivalent avoided and to benefit 150 million vulnerable people in developing countries around the world.

Participants of the Congress may visit the GCF exhibit booth at COEX Hall B, F12. A GCF delegation will be present throughout the week and will have speaking engagements in the following sessions:
