Corporación Interamericana para el Financiamiento de Infraestructura, S.A. (CIFI) is a regional direct access entity (DAE) based in Panama. CIFI, founded in 2001, is a leading nonbank financial institution in middle-market infrastructure and energy financing in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) and provides advisory services and financing for infrastructure and energy projects that promote sustainable development in the region. One of CIFI’s shareholders, the Caribbean Development Bank, is accredited to GCF as regional DAE. CIFI advises and finances sustainable infrastructure projects in the private sector that focus on the middle market in LAC. In the last 22 years, CIFI financed over 200 projects and disbursed USD 2 billion, thus avoiding 1,142,380 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (t CO2 eq) in 2022 and 1,079,394 t CO2 eq in 2021.

With GCF, CIFI intends to focus its efforts on: proposing actions to address barriers to attracting global financial flows and crowding in private capital investments to shift to renewable energy-based power systems and meet national climate, economic and social goals and supporting the development and piloting of innovative instruments that scale up available financing for larger-scale investments potentially in partnership with efforts to strengthen policy, pricing, standards and other incentives.
