Blue Action Fund (BAF): GCF Ecosystem Based Adaptation Programme in the Western Indian Ocean
Reducing or avoiding climate change impacts through ecosystem-based adaptation for vulnerable coastal populations.
The western Indian Ocean region is undergoing rapid climate change. Mozambique was hit by two major cyclones in 2019, while the other regional countries are facing similarly increasing threats of cyclones and tropical storms, exacerbated by climate change.
This programme will pool adaptation sub-projects by non-governmental organisation (NGOs) under the Blue Action Fund to improve climate-resilient coastal zone management in this diverse region. The programme will leverage additional co-financing from NGOs, while grant recipients are required to provide 25 percent of the budget of their projects.
