Guatemala is one of the most vulnerable countries to the impacts of climate change in Latin America, experiencing an annual average temperature increase of 0.6 °C and a 2.5% increase in the number of hot days per decade since 1960. In the past 20 years, the frequency of droughts and floods has increased dramatically, leading to significant economic losses in the country. 

This project aims to bolster the resilience of the most vulnerable farmers and indigenous groups in the Mayan landscapes and the Dry Corridor of Guatemala.  

Over six thousand family farms will benefit from the development of climate-resilient adaptation practices and gender-sensitive technology packages for staple crops, coffee and cocoa. The installation of 370 greenhouses micro-tunnel facilities will help farmers to diversify agricultural crop productivity, while the setting up of 13 hydro-meteorological monitoring stations will help to disseminate climate information and early warning of risks, to stakeholders. Moreover, the project aims to restore 13 thousand hectares of watershed through reforestation and agroforestry.
