During COP 22, Luxembourg’s Environment Minister, Ms. Carole Dieschbourg, and the Green Climate Fund Executive Director a.i., Mr. Javier Manzanares, met to discuss the Fund’s progress over the past year, as well as GCF’s role in unlocking international climate finance flows.

Luxembourg is the largest per capita contributor to the Green Climate Fund with a contribution of close to USD 50 million, representing almost 100 USD per capita.

“I am pleased to hear that the Green Climate Fund managed to develop a project pipeline of 27 projects over the past twelve months, with over USD 1 billion committed from the Fund already,” stated Minister Dieschbourg.

'In Luxembourg we take climate finance very seriously, having pledged USD 127 million to international climate finance, which is additional to Official Development Assistance, amounting to USD 230 per capita.” continued the Minister. “Luxembourg calls upon other governments to make a significant contribution to GCF in order to guarantee the successful implementation of the Paris Agreement.”

“It is always helpful to reinforce our relationship with Luxembourg, which has been such a strong supporter of the Fund”, stated Mr. Manzanares. “GCF has made great strides over the past year in developing our portfolio and project pipeline, and we are now well positioned to mobilise resources to achieve transformational change.”
