Empowering Direct Access to Climate Finance
03 Dec 2018 / At COP24, GCF held its first event in its pavilion, focusing on direct access to climate finance. The panel discussion, organised together with the Adaptation Fund, included speakers from Direct Access Entities, National Designated Authorities and GCF. Direct Access is crucial for developing countries to fully exercise country ownership of climate change funding. Participants shared their experience in the field, exchange best practices and discussed the ways to further support direct access and promote country ownership.
Getting ready for Katowice
28 Nov 2018 / GCF will be attending COP24 in Katowice, Poland from 2-14 December. We look forward to welcoming you to the GCF pavilion, located in Zone E of the venue. At the pavilion we will be hosting a series of events, panel discussions, and 'GCF 101' briefings. GCF was created by the parties to the UNFCCC, and reports on our progress each year at the annual COP climate conference. We look forward to meeting you in Katowice, and to hearing your views about how we can have a greater impact in supporting developing country climate ambitions.
GCF Structured Dialogue with Least Developed Countries kicks off this week
19 Nov 2018 / The GCF Structured Dialogue with Least Developed Countries (LDCs) will take place this week (19-22 November) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The event is an opportunity to accelerate and strengthen GCF engagement with countries and stakeholders in the LDCs, who are some of the most vulnerable to the adverse effects of climate change. The Structured Dialogue will bring together representatives from National Designated Authorities (NDAs), Focal Points (FPs), Accredited Entities (AEs) as well as other stakeholders. The event is organized in collaboration with the Government of Ethiopia and the Least Developed Countries' constituency under the UNFCCC.
First GCF Adaptation Rationale workshop starts this week in the Philippines
13 Nov 2018 / On 14-17 November, GCF will host its first Adaptation Rationale workshop in Cebu, Philippines. The workshop will provide support for GCF Direct Access Entities (DAEs) and countries preparing adaptation project pipeline and enable them to explore potential partnerships for implementation. During the 4 days event, GCF partners will participate in sessions on adaptation planning, climate information, financing instruments and private sector engagement, and project design.

13 Nov 2018 / On 29 November, the Green Climate Fund (GCF), with support from the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), will deliver a final webinar for all GCF stakeholders, including Accredited Entities and National Designated Authorities/Focal Points, on the status of Simplified Approval Process’ implementation one year on from the launch of the pilot scheme. Second GCF Structured Dialogue with the Caribbean kicks off today in Grenada
06 Nov 2018 / The second GCF Structured Dialogue with the Caribbean will take place in St. George’s, Grenada on 6-9 November 2018. It will bring together ministers and senior decision makers from the region, as well as representatives from National Designated Authorities and Focal Points, Accredited Entities, civil society and private sector. Following the first GCF Structured Dialogue last year in Belize, the event in Grenada will focus on improving regional cooperation and provide an opportunity to share insights on climate finance, project implementation and investment opportunities.
Efforts stepped up to protect data privacy and protection
01 Nov 2018 / GCF has increased its efforts to safeguard personal data with the adoption of a new administrative instruction (AI) that addresses the protection and privacy of personal information. The AI, which comes into effect today, will be complemented by ongoing data protection training and other outreach activities to help equip GCF staff and other stakeholders with the right tools and practices to handle personal information.
Sharing ideas on scaling efficiency investments
31 Oct 2018 / At the recently concluded Global Conference on Energy Efficiency hosted by the International Energy Agency, GCF shared its experiences in scaling and replicating energy efficiency investments. GCF has extensive experience engaging directly with both the public and private sectors on transformational climate investments, and has the capacity to consider projects and innovative financial instruments reducing risk and unlocking further investments.
GCF welcomes 16 new accredited entities
20 Oct 2018 / In the 21st meeting of its Board held in Manama, Bahrain, GCF approved the accreditation of 16 new partners. These organisations are GCF’s partners in channeling resources to climate projects in developing countries. This approval brings the number of accredited entities to 75, with over half being direct access entities.
UNFCCC Executive Secretary highlights importance of GCF, success of Board Meeting
17 Oct 2018 / UNFCCC Executive Secretary Patricia Espinosa addressed Board members, partners and observers at the 21st meeting of the GCF Board held in Manama, Bahrain, underscoring the importance of the success of the meeting. She further emphasised the critical role of the Fund, saying that “replenishing the GCF will allow it to continue playing a critical role in supporting developing countries shift to a low emission and climate resilient path.”
