Second GCF Structured Dialogue with the Caribbean kicks off today in Grenada
06 Nov 2018 / The second GCF Structured Dialogue with the Caribbean will take place in St. George’s, Grenada on 6-9 November 2018. It will bring together ministers and senior decision makers from the region, as well as representatives from National Designated Authorities and Focal Points, Accredited Entities, civil society and private sector. Following the first GCF Structured Dialogue last year in Belize, the event in Grenada will focus on improving regional cooperation and provide an opportunity to share insights on climate finance, project implementation and investment opportunities.
Efforts stepped up to protect data privacy and protection
01 Nov 2018 / GCF has increased its efforts to safeguard personal data with the adoption of a new administrative instruction (AI) that addresses the protection and privacy of personal information. The AI, which comes into effect today, will be complemented by ongoing data protection training and other outreach activities to help equip GCF staff and other stakeholders with the right tools and practices to handle personal information.
Sharing ideas on scaling efficiency investments
31 Oct 2018 / At the recently concluded Global Conference on Energy Efficiency hosted by the International Energy Agency, GCF shared its experiences in scaling and replicating energy efficiency investments. GCF has extensive experience engaging directly with both the public and private sectors on transformational climate investments, and has the capacity to consider projects and innovative financial instruments reducing risk and unlocking further investments.
GCF welcomes 16 new accredited entities
20 Oct 2018 / In the 21st meeting of its Board held in Manama, Bahrain, GCF approved the accreditation of 16 new partners. These organisations are GCF’s partners in channeling resources to climate projects in developing countries. This approval brings the number of accredited entities to 75, with over half being direct access entities.
UNFCCC Executive Secretary highlights importance of GCF, success of Board Meeting
17 Oct 2018 / UNFCCC Executive Secretary Patricia Espinosa addressed Board members, partners and observers at the 21st meeting of the GCF Board held in Manama, Bahrain, underscoring the importance of the success of the meeting. She further emphasised the critical role of the Fund, saying that “replenishing the GCF will allow it to continue playing a critical role in supporting developing countries shift to a low emission and climate resilient path.”
GCF emphasises role of women in addressing climate change at UN Women event
27 Sep 2018 / At a high-level ministerial event hosted by UN Women, GCF Deputy Executive Director Javier Manzanares underscored the important role that women play in addressing climate change. GCF worked with UN Women in producing the "Mainstreaming Gender in Green Climate Fund Projects" manual to help project designers and implementors in integrating gender equality in climate projects and interventions.
GCF joins launch of 2018 Champions 12.3 report

GCF supports strong investor action to combat climate change
13 Sep 2018 / At the Investor Agenda roundtable held yesterday on the sidelines of the Global Climate Action Summit in San Francisco, GCF joined investors and other representatives from the private sector to demonstrate and accelerate investor-led action critical to achieving the goals of the Paris Agreement. The Investor Agenda provides a way for investors to directly report actions they are taking, and scale-up their commitment to act, across four key focus areas: Investment, Corporate Engagement, Investor Disclosure, and Policy Advocacy.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres calls for climate finance mobilisation, resourcing of GCF
11 Sep 2018 / In a recent speech at the UN Headquarters in New York, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres outlined his thoughts on needed action in the next three years to effectively address climate change. Among them — leadership, a sense of urgency, a true commitment to a decisive multilateral response. He expressed the need for governments to fulfill their pledge to mobilise USD 100 billion a year for climate finance and his ardent desire to ensure that the Green Climate Fund is fully operationalised and properly resourced. GCF previews SAP online submission system
04 Sep 2018 / Three webinars were recently concluded by GCF in cooperation with UNITAR. The webinars previewed a new online submission system to around 100 participants, consisting of National Designated Authorities (NDAs) and Accredited Entities (AEs). This new system, slated to be launched this year, aims to further improve the efficiency and transparency of submitting concept notes and funding proposals to GCF. A recording of the webinars will be posted on the SAP section of the GCF website.
