Climate-resilient infrastructure consultation held to improve sector guidance
29 Oct 2019 / GCF held a consultation on its approach to climate-resilient infrastructure in Basel, Switzerland on 28 October. The consultation was held to inform stakeholders of and receive feedback on the sector guidance on climate-resilient infrastructure, ensuring that the approach is aligned with the market and that GCF invests in activities with the most impact. It also initiated partnerships for cooperation to promote climate-resilient solutions.
GCF signs integrity agreement with Attijariwafa Bank
26 Aug 2019 / Agreeing to cooperate and consult on integrity matters, the Independent Integrity Unit (IIU) of GCF signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Attijariwafa Bank. The MoU covers information-sharing, joint investigations and collaborations, as well as capacity-building support with the Bank's Compliance Office. The MoU will complement Attijariwafa Bank's Accreditation Master Agreement (AMA), which is currently under negotiation. IIU is continuously working on its goal of establishing similar agreements with counterpart offices of all Accredited Entities as a means of ensuring the safeguarding of GCF resources.
Learn about GCF’s REDD+ support during June webinars
14 Jun 2019 / GCF will host the first of a series of REDD+ webinars on 19 and 20 June to provide information about the Fund’s support for this financing method which reduces greenhouse gases while also protecting and restoring forests. Intended for both seasoned REDD+ practitioners and those new to REDD+, the sessions will cover all three REDD+ phases - including GCF’s start in February to making Results-Based Payments to countries proven to have halted deforestation. Three separate webinars will be conducted in English, French and Spanish.
GCF strengthens private sector push in agreement with Proparco
14 Jun 2019 / GCF has enhanced its ability to tap financing from the business world with the recent signing of an Accreditation Master Agreement (AMA) with Proparco, the private sector arm of the development agency of France. The AMA sets the legal framework for Proparco to begin proposing and implementing climate finance projects in developing countries as a GCF Accredited Entity. Proparco plays a pivotal role in the Choose Africa initiative, launched earlier this year by French President Emmanuel Macron to encourage EUR 2.5 billion of investment in SMEs in Africa.
Senegal climate resilience receives a boost with funding agreement
13 Jun 2019 / GCF has signed an agreement with Senegal's Centre de Suivi Écologique (CSE) to enhance the ability of local populations to deal with increasing soil salinisation caused by climate change. The signing of the Funded Activity Agreement (FAA) allows for this GCF Board-approved USD 8.2 million project to begin implementation. Planned activities by CSE, a Senegalese environmental monitoring centre, include strengthening the country’s ability to mainstream climate change into land management plans.
Preventing sexual abuse in projects: Learnings from the World Bank
23 May 2019 / GCF further solidified its actions for zero-tolerance of sexual exploitation, abuse, and harassment (SEAH) by introducing an updated SEAH Policy through the Independent Redress Mechanism's (IRM) preparation of an advisory report on preventing SEAH in GCF projects. In "Preventing Sexual Abuse in Projects: Learnings from the World Bank," the Chair of the World Bank Inspection Panel Imrana Jalal shared her insights on gender-based violence at the project level and its far-reaching impacts on local communities and institutions. The talk was jointly organised by the Independent Integrity Unit (IIU) and IRM of GCF.
GCF launches online submission system for SAP projects
06 May 2019 / Today, GCF launches the Online Submission System (OSS) for Simplified Approval Process (SAP) projects. This innovative solution for submitting SAP concept notes and funding proposals to GCF will improve the efficiency of managing SAP proposals and the transparency of the review process. Beginning 6 May, all GCF Accredited Entities and National Designated Authorities/Focal Points will be able to access the OSS and submit their SAP proposals online. From 15 June 2019, the OSS should be the standard way of submitting SAP proposals, and e-mail submissions only used in exceptional circumstances.
Adaptation: Accelerating action towards a climate resilient future
02 May 2019 / At Korea Global Adaptation Week in Songdo, GCF launched a new working paper, Adaptation: Accelerating Action Towards a Climate Resilient Future, to contribute to adaptation knowledge from the perspective of climate financing. The working paper provides an overview of adaptation and resilience challenges, as well as the distinction between them. Read the Executive Director's opening remarks at the launch of the paper.
Updated Funding Proposal template now available
07 Mar 2019 / The updated Funding Proposal template is now available. The revised template clarifies information requested for baseline, context and theory of change, while also simplifying financing information and investment criteria information required. It has also been restructured and condensed to reduce redundancies. Overall, the update strengthens many portions of the template that will help GCF Accredited Entities prepare high-quality funding proposals. Further guidance on project design and on filling out the template is being developed. GCF will accept both new and old versions of the template to ensure a smooth transition, ending 6 June 2019.
GCF projects under implementation hit the USD 2 billion mark
18 Feb 2019 / With Funded Activity Agreements for FP066 and FP058 coming into effect, the Green Climate Fund (GCF) marks another milestone – it now has USD 2 billion worth of projects under implementation. These projects help developing countries take climate action and meet their nationally determined contributions by shifting them to a low-emission and climate-resilient path.
