Enhancing Brazilian’s capacity to combat climate change and desertification in traditional semi-arid territories

Subnational authorities in Brazil lack a framework to address climate change and desertification for the execution of projects in traditional communities that contribute to climate change mitigation and adaptation and to reducing desertification in semi-arid territories.

This Readiness grant will address the following barriers: lack of a strategic framework that contemplates the participation of traditional communities in land management initiatives to combat climate change and desertification; lack of consolidation of the results on the ground of small-scale physical interventions in traditional communities to inform climate change and desertification policies and plans; and lack of information for preparing strong and high-quality proposals to be submitted to GCF on climate change and desertification in ASD. Thus, this proposal aims to add a climate lens to Brazil’s policies to combat desertification.
